CABERNET SAUVIGNON
2006
LAKE COUNTY, RED HILLS

THE STORY:
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon came to us from Fortress Vineyards of Lake Co. Unsure what Lake County had to offer, we discovered the amazing flavors exhibited by this unique terrior from Red Hills AVA ( American Viticultural Area). Farmed in volcanic soils, pearched above Clear Lake, this 6 year old vineyard reportedly had never harvested for production. Carruth Cellars is very pleased to debut this remarkable wine.

THE WINE:
It introduces itself with an attractive bouquet of blackberries, bing cherry and vanilla aromas, alongside notes of cocoa, Asian spice and sweet tobacco. Rich flavors of berry and plum dance across the palate through a long, satisfying finish. Beautifully balanced, this wine is rich and fullbodied, with backbone and supple tannins.

PINOT NOIR
2006
MENDOCINO COUNTY

THE STORY:
The search for the coveted Pinot Noir grape went up the California coast through Monterey County past Sonoma into Mendocino County. After making a series of inquiries, and not having any luck in the famous Anderson Valley of Mendo, chance presented us with the opportunity of making something special. A gentleman at Navarro Vineyards recommended we call Guy Gray, an artisian winemaker/viticulturist off Orr Springs Road WNW of Ukiah, CA. Our first crack at making Pinot Noir, we are very pleased with the results.

THE WINE:
Our Mendocino Pinot Noir has a bright beautiful pomegranate hue and a bouquet of flowers and forest floor interwoven with raspberry, blueberry, crushed rock and cherry. It is rich, medium bodied with lovely fruit and nice texture, purity and overall balance. Aged in a mix of French and American oak barrels for 15 months, the extracted wine may come over as a bit bold and big for a Pinot but hopes are that the extra tannin structure will mellow in the coming months to perfection.

PETITE SIRAH
2006
PASO ROBLES

THE STORY:
The 2006 Petite Sirah comes from Solana Farms in Paso Robles with the help of fellow winemaker Jeff Cowan and his friends. A beautiful vineyard, a few miles East of Hwy 101, farmed by a gentleman, Joe, produces distinct flavors regardless of the varietal. Our experience with this Petite Sirah was exciting and new to us. We only destemmed this small lot in preparation for a carbonic maceration ( whole berry fermentation). The results were wonderful.

THE WINE:
100% Petite Sirah. Powerful and amazingly intense as well as rich. Concentrated dark plum purple hue; complex, effusive aromas mingle cedar, herbs, mild berries, smoke, and aged meat. Clean, deep, mildly grapey, peppery, delicious, straightforward flavors; medium to full body & well-balanced.

Only fifty cases produced. Tasting great now, to be enjoyed with red meat or a sharp cheese and tapenade. We're excited to see how the complexities of this wine will be revealed in time. It should easily evolve over the next decade.

Alc/Vol: 14.7%        pH: 3. 65         TA: 0.55g/100ml

MALBEC
2006
LAKE COUNTY

THE STORY:
We required a new source for fruit and went North to Lake County. We met Cindy Olof of St. Olof Vineyard who prides herself on her exceptional farm. It is situated in the Clear Lake AVA. Cindy tends her beautiful vineyard and harvests the clusters at peak perfection. We are lucky to have such a great source.

THE WINE:
Deep, dark and jammy, with masculine plum and blackberry flavors. Quite bold, with a mountain of dark-fruit flavor, while the tannins show up late on the finish and make their mark. Tight, centered and delicious.
